Denison Dental, Kingston’s expert dentists, provide comprehensive general dentistry, including check-ups, fillings, and oral surgery. We offer personalised care plans, discussing your goals and addressing dental issues for optimal oral health.
Our general dentistry services
Whether you need root canal treatment, oral surgery, or have problems with grinding your teeth, the team at Denison Dental will help. We provide a range of reliable dental services for all ages, all of which will help restore your smile.
If you look after your teeth and visit your dentist regularly, then you can expect to enjoy good oral health. At Denison Dental, we’re committed to encouraging our patients towards preventative treatment so they can avoid future dental problems.
We advise our patients to visit us for a dental check-up every six months, so we can keep track of their oral health and deal with any issues as they arise. Early intervention is key if you want to treat a condition quickly and prevent further damage, so making that trip to our dental surgery is crucial.
Preventative care
As part of our services, we offer our patients expert care when it comes to dental hygiene and oral health issues. From making recommendations on brushing your teeth regularly and foods and drinks to avoid, to being able to spot changes in your teeth or gums, we’ll assist with all this and more.
Tooth decay can quickly eat away at the tooth’s surface and damage the nerve inside, so it’s important to brush at least twice every day. Preventing dental problems will not only save you from treatment in the future, it will also keep dentistry costs down and maintain the integrity of your natural teeth.
Fillings are perhaps one of the most well known forms of general dentistry treatments, and at Denison Dental, we support mercury-free dentistry. This means we use only the finest materials for all fillings, so you can rest assured that you’re receiving the very best treatment available.
We’re also committed to saving as much of the natural tooth as possible, as we wish to break the tradition of having heavily restored teeth. Instead, we retain as much of the healthy tooth structure as we can to ensure that only the absolute minimum amount of filling is used. We also blend the filling in with the colour of your natural teeth, so it’s less obvious that your teeth are filled.
Tooth preservation
Our approach to fillings means that your natural teeth are strengthened by our restorative treatment, which offers a better outcome for your oral health. In our opinion, preservation is the future, so when you visit our practice, we’ll do all we can to protect your natural teeth.
If you think you need fillings, or would like more information on our dentistry services, please give us a call. Our team will be only too happy to help.
At Denison Dental, we provide expert root canal treatment at our practice in Kingston. If you require this type of intervention, our dentists are the ideal choice. With over a decade of experience, we offer professional endodontics in a relaxed and comfortable environment, and will explain every part of the process, so you know exactly what your treatment will involve.
What is root canal treatment?
Root canal treatment involves removing the infected soft tissue (pulp) from inside the tooth, which is made up of the nerve and blood vessels of the tooth. The tooth may have become infected as a result of decay or injury. If you’ve noticed that one of your teeth has become darker, this may be the reason.
Root canal treatment is used to remove the infection, and clean out the inside of the tooth, to prevent its return. This treatment may be necessary to save your natural tooth if the pulp tissue is irreversibly damaged by the bacteria associated with decay, very deep fillings, tooth fracture, trauma, or periodontal disease.
Involving little or no pain, root canal treatment usually requires two visits to complete, and once the infection is cleared, the tooth may be filled.
It’s important to teach your children about good oral hygiene from an early age. At Denison Dental, we work with children from all ages, and encourage parents to bring them in to the clinic as soon as possible.
If your child has a positive experience at the dentist early on, it will help to reduce anxiety in the future and instil a sense of how important it is to look after their teeth. We want to make sure that your children have a great experience with us, and we know how important first impressions are, so you can depend on our team to provide a warm and friendly service.
We provide the following children’s dentistry treatments:
- Mouth guards
- Fissure sealants
- Fluoride treatments
- Fillings
- Orthodontic appliances
- Extractions
- Inhalation Sedation (Nitrous Oxide)
It’s never too early to start teaching your children about the benefits of oral hygiene. If you come to Denison Dental, you can expect expert advice and treatment every time. We care about the prevention of dental issues and are keen to teach the next generation how to care for their teeth. If you live in or around Kingston and are looking for a reliable dental practice, Denison Dental is the perfect choice.
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule provides capped benefit entitlement for basic dental services provided to children aged 2-18 in families who meet a means test.
Services for basic essential dental treatments, such as check-ups, X-rays, fillings, and extractions, will be included, and patients will have access to dental benefit entitlements capped (indexed annually) over a two calendar year period. The benefit is capped at $1,158 per child.
Before any treatments begin, you will be presented with a treatment plan of your child/children’s treatment. If this happens to exceed the $1,158 cap, the dentist will discuss options with you to make payments easier. We generally find this does not occur with children who have been on our preventative cycle, with cleaning and check up visits scheduled every six months.
At times, you may require the removal of teeth, such as wisdom teeth or those which have been irrevocably damaged or decayed. In this case, we offer oral surgery and have a team of highly skilled dentists who can carry out the procedure with ease.
Some tooth extractions are routine, but if an extraction proves to be particularly difficult, oral surgery would be the next stage. At Denison Dental, we have the necessary equipment, so you can rest assured of receiving the very best treatment from our team, as well as a safe and painless procedure. We also have inhalation sedation (laughing gas or nitrous oxide), which can be used if needed, so every eventuality is covered.
If you do require oral surgery, your dentist will discuss the procedure with you, so that you’re clear on what will happen and why. This could be done under general anaesthetic if you wish. No treatment will take place unless you’re completely happy with what’s involved, and we’ll be on hand every step of the way to ensure the best results.
Excellent oral surgery after-care
Once the surgery has taken place, our team will provide you with advice on post-surgical care and will discuss the next step, which may involve implants, dentures, or a bridge. At Denison Dental, we offer a personalised service and will tailor your treatment plan to meet your specific needs, so you can enjoy the best outcome every time.
Trusted advice on TMJD treatment in Kingston
TMJD refers to conditions which affect the temperomandibular joint, jaw muscles, and nerves on one or both sides of the jaw, resulting in jaw, face, head, or neck pain. The pain and discomfort caused by TMJD may be severe, intermittent, or constant, and may last for many years.
You may suffer from TMJD if you’re experiencing any of the following symptoms:
- Jaw pain when eating
- Restricted jaw movement
- Noises from your jaw joints during movement
During our dental examination, we’ll assess your oral cavity and jaw movements to determine whether or not this is the issue. Thought to be the result of a variety of interconnected symptoms, TMJD doesn’t always have a straightforward treatment, so we’ll discuss various techniques which may help your specific situation.
If you think you may have TMJD, or would like more information on this condition, please get in touch with our team. With over 40 years of experience within dentistry, we have expert knowledge of all sorts of dental problems and can help you to find the best solution to meet your needs.
If you suffer from teeth grinding, it’s important to seek treatment as soon as you can because constant and repeated grinding can cause long-term damage to your teeth. Also known as bruxism, teeth grinding be linked to TMJD, which causes discomfort in the jaw muscles and nerves, resulting in neck and face pain.
Stress-induced teeth grinding
Although sometimes thought of as being more prevalent in children, teeth grinding is quite common in adults. Bruxism can be a sign of stress or anxiety. Other contributing factors include smoking, alcohol or caffeine, snoring, and certain medications or stimulants.
Various problems can result from excessive teeth grinding, which wears away the outer layer, or enamel, of your teeth. This can cause cracks and fractures, leading to increased sensitivity or nerve involvement. It can also result in the loss of vertical dimension, facial symmetry, and aesthetics. Other consequences of teeth clenching and grinding include tension headaches and migraines.
If teeth grinding is a problem for you, we advise using a custom-fitted bite plate to address the issue. This will protect your teeth from the effects of future grinding, and will ultimately prevent more serious problems. Get in touch with us if you’d like to speak with one of our dentists about how we can help you stop grinding your teeth.
